Langtang Gosainkunda Trek gives you a wonderful experience of trekking and typical culture in the Northern Himalayas. It is one of the closest Nepal trekking destinations from the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. Breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks, tranquil trekking trails, cultural villages and pilgrimage sites are the rewards of this trek.

This trek begins from Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang region trekking and Ganesh Himal (Ruby Valley) trek to reach there, you can drive in a private jeep or a deluxe couch from Kathmandu Valley. You drive along the Pasang Lhamu Highway that goes past some small business centers and high altitude villages.

This is a moderate type of trekking in Nepal that takes you along the Tamang Villages in Langtang National Park. Langtang Village is one of the largest Tamang Settlement areas in Nepal. Here, you can observe the typical lifestyle, culture and tradition of Tamang ethnic group. Afterwards, you go past Ghoda Tabela (Horse Stables), a village having an airstrip facilitating Langtang Helicopter Tour.

By walking across the classic Tamang and Sherpa villages, you reach Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m). This monastery is a vantage point of the entire Langtang Region trekking. From here, you can have the 360-degree panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks and wonderful landscapes. You can visit the local cheese factory that produces dairy products made up of yak milk.

Gosainkunda Trek

During acclimatization day, you can reach Kyanjin Ri (4,600 m) just a few kilometer's apart from the gompa. Kyanjin Ri is the best viewpoint to witness the stunning view of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Langtang Yubra Peak (6,035 m), Changbu Himal and other snow-clad peaks. Spending a night and day at the monastery, you can feel the peace of mind and soul.

Langtang National Park conserves around 2,000 flowering plants of different species. You witness the diverse species of animals like red pandas, snow leopards, Himalayan thar and around 250 species of birds. If you plan Langtang Gosainkunda trek in spring, the entire national park area is covered with colorful apparel of rhododendron flowers.

Crossing Laurivinayak La Pass (3,920 m), you reach the alpine freshwater lake of Gosainkunda (4,361 m). Sing Gompa nearby Chandanbari is another focal part of Gosainkunda Lake. It is a small gompa extended in around 100 square meters area. Itinerary

On the arrival day, the team member of Nepal Trekking Routes receives you at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Then, s/he takes you to the hotel reserved for your accommodation. In the free time, you can take a short trip around the tourist hub, Thamel. In the evening, the team leader of Langtang Gosainkunda delivers you the detailed information about the itinerary.

You have breakfast at the hotel and begin the journey towards Syabrubesi, the gateway to Langtang region trekking. You drive along the Pasang Lhamu Highway along the banks of the Trishuli River for some time. Then, the road takes you through a few trade centres showing high altitude villages and snowcapped peaks of Langtang Himalayan Range.

Today’s trail goes along the Bhote Koshi River for some time and then follows the Langtang Khola. Crossing the debris of landslide, you reach a village called Bamboo. Again you go past another village called Rimche at the elevation of 2,400m. On the way that passes through Langtang National Park, you may have the glimpses of some high Himalayan animal species. Red pandas, Black bears and white langurs may play hide and sick with you. Finally, you reach Lama Hotel in 6 hours by making a steady walk.

After breakfast, you begin the journey towards Langtang Village, the headquarters of Langtang National Park. The trekking track goes past a dense forest of maple, oak, rhododendron and pine forests. By enjoying the majestic looks of Mt. Langtang Lirung, you reach Ghoda Tabela ( literally‘Horse Stables’) at 2,850m. This is the village of this region having only one airstrip that is used for Langtang helicopter tour. By crossing a few beautiful Tamang villages and terraced farmlands cultivated with seasonal crops, you reach the destination. Just before the rest point, there is a local Tamang monastery that you can visit.

Today is one of the most remarkable days of Langtang Gosainkunda trek itinerary. The trail moves ahead uphill and downhill in the midst of prayer wheels, flags, chortens and mani walls. Crossing a mountain stream, you reach Mandu Village, one of the many Tamang settlement areas. After a few minutes, you reach Kyanjin Gompa, one of the focal points of this trek. This is a vantage point of Langtang Valley that shows you the snowcapped peaks surrounding you from all sides. Apart from this, you can feel peace of mind during your stay at the monastery.

Today, you don’t have to worry about what to do as it is acclimatization day. After you get up, experience the sunrise view of the region. During the day, you have a few options in hand to prepare yourself to enable to climb further. A visit to the monastery and a local cheese factory including a moraine of the ice falls. You can also walk up to a glacial lake that lies about three hours’ distance from here. You can also have a perfect view of the Langtang Lirung Glacier from the hotel.

The most fascinating site of this tour is Kyanjin Ri (4,600m). It is the vantage point that shows you breathtaking vistas of the snowy peaks of this region. You can have the picturesque view of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Changbu and Langtang Yubra Peak (6,035m) from atop.

After having breakfast, you begin the retreat journey along the trail that moves along the Langtang Khola. Walking across Langtang Village and Ghoda Tabela, you arrive at Lama Hotel in 6 hours.

Today’s trekking is quite challenging but memorable as the trail goes dramatically uphill towards Thulo Syabru. On the journey, you may sight some animals like red pandas, snow leopards, musk deers and black bears. Thulo Syabru is one of the biggest Tamang villages in this region. From here, you can have a mesmerizing vista of Ganesh Himal (7,110m) and Langtang (7,227m) Himalayan Ranges. You can better know about the Tamang lifestyle, culture and tradition in this village.

You begin the trip by following the uphill trail that goes past Dursang (2,660m) to reach Foprang Danda (3,200m). While walking through the dense forests of Langtang National Park, you relish the stunning mountain views. Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Tibetan mountain peaks come into your sight to push your trip ahead. Walking along the rugged trail comparatively comfortable, you reach Sing Gompa for the night stay.

In Sing Gompa, you can visit a local cheese factory and a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery. Perhaps taste the local organic cheese made up of yak milk! You can also enjoy the snowcapped mountains from the hotel you have booked to stay.

After breakfast, you follow the uphill trail to reach Laurivinayak La Passs (3,920m). Then, the trail further ascends toward the prime location of Langtang Gosainkunda Lake trek. Although the trail is uphill, the dramatic vistas of Ganesh Himal (7,110m), Manaslu(8,163m) region, Himalchuli (7,893m) and some Tibetan peaks accompany you throughout the journey. On a clear day, you can have the majestic outlook of Annapurna (8,091m) Range. After walking for about 6 hours, you reach Gosainkunda Lake, a holy pilgrimage for Hindus and Buddhists as well. You can also have an alluring view of other lakes having turquoise water besides Gosainkunda Lake.

You begin the retreat journey towards Sing Gompa following the same trail you had walked through yesterday. On the way, you walk past Laurivinayak La Pass enjoying the enchanting mountain vistas.

After having breakfast, you walk along the dense forests of pine, oak and rhododendron trees inhabited by different species of birds. By crossing thick marijuana plantation areas and a suspension bridge over the Sing Gompa Khola, you arrive at Dhunche. Dhunche is the administrative headquarters of Rasuwa district.

You have breakfast at the hotel and start the roadway journey along the Pasang Lhamu Highway. You can again enjoy the eye-catching vistas of mountain peaks, high altitude villages and business hubs en route. After you arrive at Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel. In the leisure, you can visit around Thamel for shopping purpose to collect handcrafted items. In the evening, the agency organizes a farewell dinner at a cultural restaurant around Thamel.

Day 14: Final Departure

Here comes the end of Langtang Valley Gosainkunda trek 14 days itinerary. Therefore, the representative of our agency relocates you to the Kathmandu Airport as per your flight schedule.

Of course, yes! As there is not any restricted zone, you can do Langtang Gosainkunda trek solo. But we highly recommend you to book a professional trekking guide and a porter to get help in emergency cases like altitude sickness. Sometimes, the solo trekkers to Langtang region have gone missing. When you miss the right track, you may have to face unwanted results as well!

As you have to walk and spend the night above 2,500m, there are always some possibilities of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). However, you can avoid such problems by following some preventive methods. You have to take enough water and hygienic food including sound sleep. You shouldn’t forget to keep medicines like Diamox Oral in your backpack. As soon as you feel any kind of difficulty like shortness of breath, dehydration or fatigue, you must tell it to the guide.
