Overview

Tsho Rolpa Lake Trek takes you to the largest glacial lake of Nepal. Tsho Rolpa Lake (4,580m) is located in the classic Rolwaling Valley, which is known as the Everest Climbers’ Home. Due to its beauty, this lake has been one of the central attractions among the national and international tourists.

As this lake lies in Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project (GSCAP), there exist a large variety of flora and fauna. The chirping of the birds and gurgling sound of the waterways make the trip more memorable. Throughout the Nepal trekking, you come see tens of natural waterfalls. One of the most remarkable is the Bhorley Jharana nearby the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project.

If this trekking in Nepal is connect with Everest region, the itinerary obviously becomes longer. For this, you should cross Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,755m) that connects Rolwaling Valley and Everest region. Tsho Rolpa Trek Cost

Tsho Rolpa Trek Difficulty

Tsho Rolpa Lake trek difficulty is considerer to be of moderate type. The trekking trails are well maintaine by the local communities. You don’t have to worry about food and accommodation services en route. The people of Rolwaling Valley are very kind and helpful to the visitors.

You have to walk for about 6/7 hours along the steep up and down rocky trail. The highest point to reach is Tsho Rolpa Lake (4,580m). There are not any high passes requiring climbing gears as well.

Altitude is the only factor contributing for Tsho Rolpa Lake trek difficulty. As long as you reach above 2,500m, there is high chance for altitude sickness. However, you can prevent yourself from this health hazard.

Walking slowly; having enough water, food and sleep; keeping first aid kit box and following the instructions of the team leader are the ultimate measures. Booking the trip with a local tour operator is the best way to do this trek successfully.

Before going for Tsho Rolpa lake trek, make habit of regular exercises and walking. Keep your physical condition and metal determination quite strong. Avoid having alcoholic and tobacco products during the trekking.

Itinerary

On the arrival day, the team member of our agency welcomes you to the Tribhuvan Airport. After that, you complete the visa procedure right at the airport. For this, you shouldn’t forget to bring USD 50 in cash and 2 pp sized photograph to get the on-arrival visa. Tourist Visa is issued by the Immigration Service Center for 15, 30 and 90 days with the cost USD 30, 50 and 100 respectively.

Then, he transfers you to the hotel booked for your stay while in Kathmandu. In the free time, go around Thamel Bazar on your own.

This day is allocated for both Kathmandu guided tour and trek preparation. The tour guide of the agency guides you around the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in the Capital City. Generally, the Monkey Temple, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple and Bouddhanath Stupa will be visited.

However, if you want to explore other World Heritage Sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changunarayan Temple, we can manage that as well. For this, you should consult with us beforehand.

When you return from the guided tour, the team leader meets you and instructs about Tsho Rolpa Lake trek itinerary. As you don’t need any climbing gears, you needn’t worry much. The legal documents required for this trek will be managed by the agency itself.

To cover the 195 kilometers road distance, you should begin earlier that means it depends upon if you hire a private or drive in public vehicle. Enjoying the morning view of the snowcapped peaks, green forests and many trading centers, you move along the Araniko Highway up to Khadichaur.

Then, the vehicle takes right turn across the Bhotekoshi River and begin to ascend through the modes. Driving past Mude, Dolakha Bhimsen, Singati and Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, you reach Gongar Khola.

A little this side from Tamakoshi Hydropower, don’t forget to take a short pause at the Bhorley Jharana that almost falls on the road! From the Gonger Khola, you cross the Chetchet Suspension Bridge over the Tamakoshi River and follow the steep trail to reach Simigaun.

Moving along the snaky rugged trail, you continue the journey after having breakfast. On the way, you go across the 2nd cantilever bridge of Nepal to reach Surmuche. The natural waterfalls found in plentiful numbers make the walking more pleasant.

By crossing some wooden bridges and waterfalls amidst the dense forests, you reach Kyalche Village. Here, you find a couple of teahouses where you can stop for the night as well. From here, you have to walk more for 45 minutes to reach today’s final destination, Dongang. Actually, Dong Gaun (Dong Village) is pronounced Dongong in Sherpa tone speaking Nepali.

From here, you enter into the classic Rolwaling Valley by following the rocky trail along the dense forests. By listening to the chirping of the birds and gurgling of the Rolwaling River, you continue the trek through the curvy trail.

On the way, you might come across herds of yaks and few Sherpa Villages reflecting their living style, culture and tradition. When you reach Beding, another popular stop during Rolwaling Valley trek, don’t forget to visit the Cliffside Monastery. Beding is the largest village of Rolwaling Valley inhabited by the Sherpa people. The scenery of the Himalayas of Rolwaling region and the valley seems really incredible!

At the end, you reach Na Gaun for the night station. Na Gaun has around 20 villages where around 5 hotels and lodges are found. Most of the villagers shift to Beding Village to avoid the extreme cold of winter. Here, visit the local monastery to acclimatize and enjoy the serenity of the high altitude village.

Today is the most remarkable day of the entire Tsho Rolpa Lake trek as you are going to reach the final destination. By walking for about 2 hours along the steep up and down trail, you reach Tsho Rolpa Lake (4,580m). It is the largest glacial lake of Nepal which remains frozen in the winter whereas runs along the streams of Rolwaling Valley in other seasons.

The lake changes its colour according to the weather of the day. The soaring peaks of the Rolwaling Himalayan Range and the green hills below them are so mesmerizing that you are lost in the serene beauty.

Capture the moments in your camera and the mind as much as you can. Then, you gradually descend towards Beding Village moving across Na Gaun.

You begin today’s trek after having breakfast and then following the downhill trail, so quite comfortable. The splendid view of Mt. Gaurishankar (7,134m) makes your trip more memorable. You might also sight some birds and animals of Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project (GSCAP) as well. At the end of the trek, you arrive in Gongar Khola for the night stay. Make some celebration to mark the completion of Rolwaling Valley Tsho Rolpa Lake trek.

As you are going back to Kathmandu, enjoy the morning view of the entire Rolwaling Valley for the last time this season. If you want to experience the local bus, you should buy the tickets of either Rolwaling Yatayat or Araniko Yatayat. Optionally, you can also hire the private jeep at a comparatively higher cost.

By riding along the bus, you come across Dolakha, Mude, Khadichaur, Dhulikhel and Banepa to reach Kathmandu.

When you arrive here, you will be relocated to the hotel. In the remaining time, you can go around Thamel for purchasing handicraft products of Nepal. In the evening, we invite you to farewell dinner at a cultural restaurant somewhere at Thamel. Or, if you want to take rest the following day, no problem that we shall organize farewell program then.

Today is the last day of your Tsho Rolpa Lake trek 9 days itinerary. Therefore, we shift you to the Tribhuvan International Airport as per your flight time. Nevertheless, if you have still some days, we are happy to assist you plan something more remarkable as well. Please, let us know what you want to do!
