It is placed on top of a foothill surrounded by the dense forests of rhododendron, magnolia and sal trees. It is well known for the production of crops like maize, mustard, millet and potato although it doesn’t have good irrigation facilities.
Namobuddha is populated by mixed communities like Brahmin, Chhetri, Newar and Dalit with the majority of Tamang. It is said that once even Gautam Buddha himself came to visit this holy land that the people followed him chanting ‘Namo Buddha’ meaning ‘I revere Buddha’. This is the reason, this sacred foothill was named Namobuddha and the people are also peace-loving following the path of the Messenger of World Peace! The Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery built in 1978 and a Buddhist school are the significant landmarks of this shrine.
Similarly, there are almost 250 monks reading at Shree Mangal Dip Branch School and residing inside the monastery. Most importantly, you can have the amazing sight of the Panauti Valley, Dhulikhel Bazaar and Banepa Town from the top. You can also have the distant view of the glowing mountains such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Mt. Gaurishankar (7,134m) and Mt. Manaslu (8,156m). The mountain villages maintaining significant distance from one another are also the matter of interest for the tourists reaching Namobuddha.
