Chulu East Peak Climbing Overview

Chulu East Peak Climbing takes you to the top of a 6,000 m+ peak of Manang Valley. Chulu East Peak (6,584 m) is one of the two Chulu Peaks with Chulu West Peak (6,059 m). This peak connects the Annapurna Himalayan Range and Damodar Himal (6,042 m).

It is situated between the Marsyangdi River headwaters and Mesokanto La Pass (5,099 m). Although you can do Chulu East Peak climbing alone, it is most often combined with the Thorung La Pass trek. Hence, it is a wonderful combination of high pass trek and peak climbing in Nepal.

The snow-capped peaks of Annapurna Massif (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri Massif (8,167 m), and Manaslu (8,163 m) region are seen at the most splendid form. Mt. Gangapurna, Mt. Tilicho, Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), Mt. Muktinath, etc. also visible during this trip.

The Chulu East Peak climbing route runs through the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). Therefore, the large variety of wildlife and vegetation makes this adventurous journey more of a lifetime experience!

The Thakali, Gurung and Bhotia villages located at high altitudes are the cultural beauties of the Annapurna region. The famous ancient Braga Monastery of Manang and Muktinath Temple of Mustang are the most notable cultural sites. Chulu Peak climbing combined with the Annapurna Circuit Trek lets you have firsthand knowledge of the lifestyle, culture, and tradition of the Manangese people.

The hundreds of Buddha statues of Braga Monastery; the natural flame and the 108 waterspouts of Muktinath Temple are the most striking features. It begins from the Marsyangdi River Valley and ends at the Kali Gandaki River Valley.

Exploration of the Lake City Pokhara is another added beauty of the Annapurna Circuit trek, Chulu East Peak climbing. The scenic flight to Pokhara from Jomsom prizes you with the aerial view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri as well as Manaslu region Trek.

Chulu East Peak Climbing Difficulty

Chulu East Peak climbing difficulty up to the base camp is moderate type because you follow the most frequented trail of Annapurna Round trek. Then, the journey moves higher towards High Camp and the Summit is quite difficult.

The trail further is steep and ice-covered so, slippery that in some sections you need to take the help of climbing gears. You have to cross a few gorges between High Camp and Chulu East Peak Summit as well. Descent is also challenging as there is a chance of muscle aches due to the steep downhill trail. You must be quite careful to avoid any possible mishap!

After you complete Chulu Peak climbing, you move along the Annapurna Circuit trek route via Thorung La Pass (5,416 m). Although a non-technical pass, the Thorung La Pass trek is considered to be challenging as you have to gain approx. 1,000 m elevation within a day!

The most responsible factor for contributing to the Chulu East Peak climbing package is altitude. You spend most of the time above 2,500 m. As soon as you move higher than the given height, there is a possibility of altitude sickness.

A few days should be spent on the tented camp so that you cannot have the choice of food and accommodation services. You have to compromise with the food prepared by the crew and sleep in the tented camp.

Most of Chulu Peak's climbing package begins from Beshisahar, but we have started it from Chame. That’s why, there is change in the Chulu East Peak climbing itinerary.  However, it is always a matter of customization. Don’t worry Nepal Trekking Routes is always resilient to make the necessary change in the proposed itinerary. Just be frank about your comfort while booking this trip with us!

Chulu East Peak Climbing Cost

Chulu East Peak climbing cost depends upon a few aspects associated with this peak climbing in Nepal package. The duration, services of food and accommodation, mode of transportation, and trekking permits are the most influential factors.

Chulu East Peak climbing itinerary can be shortened or extended, no matter what! You can skip the Thorung La Pass trek and do this peak climbing alone. You can start this package right from Beshisahar, the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit trek.  And even from Muktinath, you can add a few days to the proposed itinerary to explore the Gurung and Magar ethnic villages of the Annapurna region trek.

While doing Chulu Peak climbing, you spend more days in hotels or tea houses while a few in the tented camp. Annapurna Circuit trek is recognized for the best quality food from the Nepali typical Dal Bhat to Continental and Chinese. You have large items of cuisines while spending the night at the tea houses or lodges.

But, you don’t have much choice while spending a night at the tented camp. You have to eat the food prepared by the crew and sleep in the campsite.

Mode of transportation also plays a vital role in determining the overall Chulu East Peak climbing cost. From Jomsom, you can either fly or drive to Pokhara and while returning from Pokhara to Kathmandu also, you have a choice of roadway or airway. And, the flight cost is higher than the bus tickets. Moreover, if you hire private vehicles, they cost more than traveling in public buses.

Likewise, the cost of climbing gears also impacts the cost of Chulu East  Peak climbing. If you purchase all the climbing gears, it costs more whereas if you hire some, the cost is minimized.

Chulu East Peak Climbing Permit Cost

Besides, a TIMS Card and ACAP Entry Permit, you also need a Chulu East Peak climbing permit for this Nepal Trekking trip. As it is one of the NMA trekking peaks, you need to get a peak climbing permit from the respective authority.

The cost of Chulu East Peak climbing permit is different in different seasons. Spring is the best time for peak climbing in Nepal. Hence, the cost of peak climbing permit is higher. Autumn is the second best season for Chulu Peak climbing, so, the cost is lower than in spring.

Similarly, winter and summer is comparatively less favorable season for peak climbing trip. Therefore, the cost is totally different from spring and autumn.

NMA itself issues the climbing permits for 27 peaks authorized to it by the Nepal Government. To get the permits, you have to submit the following documents:

  • Copy of passport having at least 6 months validity
  • Two passport-sized photos
  • Fees in either US Dollars or Nepalese Currency
  • Rough itinerary of the region you are trekking around
  • Sometimes you may have to wait for more than normal duration.

You have to pay the following rates to get a peak climbing permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA):

S.N.

1 Spring (March-May) 400
2 Summer (June – August) 70
