Besides, the mesmerizing view of the entire Kathmandu Valley and distant Himalayan views, Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple is also another attraction of this place. There is an interesting myth associated with this temple dedicated to one of Lord Shiva’s incarnations. During the unification campaign, King Prithvi Narayan Shah first came to the very hilltop and looked at the fertile valley. The breathtaking view of the valley and the mountain ranges touched his heart.
Then, he decided to conquer this amazing valley surrounded by the dense green forests. King PN Shah failed to get victory over Kirtipur, one of the three kingdoms of the Kathmandu Valley at that time. When the Gorkha Troop couldn’t defeat the Kirtipurian troops for the second time, King PN Shah worshiped the very Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple. After being blesse by Lord Shiva, he made the third attempt and conquered Kirtipur. Finally, he was able to make the greater Nepal into a single nation by unifying many states and principalities.
