The Everest Base Camp Sleeping trek of 16 days in Nepal, is a special trek organized by Nepal Trekking Routes. Instead of following the classical itinerary and just making a short visit to Everest Base Camp. You will be able to overnight in a tented camp at the foot of Mt Everest! Follow in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing Norgay and join Nepal Trekking Routes in this special trek in Nepal to Everest Base Camp.

Start your adventure in Nepal, Kathmandu:

Eager to start your booked trek in Nepal, you’ll be arriving at the international airport in Kathmandu. Our Nepal Trekking Routes team will already be awaiting you at the arrival section of the airport. After a short and warm welcome, we shuttle you to your booked hotel and help you check in. We plan to meet back tomorrow morning, after your breakfast at the reception of the hotel. For your first night in Kathmandu, you’ll want to explore Thamel, a cultural, and tourist district. Here you’ll find everything you might need during your trek in Nepal. Also called trekkers or backpacker’s paradise, Thamel is filled with boutique and souvenir shops, trekking gear outlets, hotels, and restaurants! Try one of the local delicacies called MoMo (Nepalese dumplings) or enjoy a night out.

The next day, while our team prepares your Nepal trekking permits for the Overnight Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal, you’ll be enjoying a guided sightseeing tour around Kathmandu! With over 7 UNESCO Heritage sites in the valley, one day is not enough to see all the places, hence we go sightseeing at the most famous landmarks Kathmandu has to offer! We start with a visit to the huge white stupa Boudhanath. This very important Buddhist pilgrimage site is visited every day by devotees seeking inner peace and enlightenment. After this, we drive to the Holy Hindu Temple Pashupatinath. Located near the north-east of Kathmandu on the banks of the Bagmati River this temple is the most important in Nepal for Hindus.

According to legend a part of Shiva’s Trident is placed here! The third is a visit to the Monkey Temple of Swayambunath. This temple which is a Buddhist Stupa is located atop a forested hill on the outskirts of Kathmandu City. The forests are inhabited by hundreds of local Macaques families, dubbing the Stupa the name “Monkey Temple”. Lastly, we visit the Royal Durbar square of Patan. Filled with Hindu Temples and ancient palace buildings, Patan is most famous for the Krishna Mandir or Hindu Temple. In the late afternoon, we head back to your hotel and go over a detailed version of the Everest Base Camp Sleeping trek.

Journey to Everest Base Camp:

On day three of your Overnight at Everest Base Camp trek package in Nepal we leave Kathmandu behind and fly to Lukla. Known as the world’s 38th highest airport flying to Lukla can be quite spectacular. With only a few designated pilots available to make the flight there can be some delays during the peak seasons. Once aboard and taking off, you can take in the aerial views of Nepal’s highlands. The landing is amazing, Lukla’s runway is located just on top of a ridge with zero margins for errors! Landed now at Lukla we gather ourselves and meet up with our local porter team. These super guys will be in charge of carrying all heavy bags during the trek! We hold a final trek safety briefing and check our gear one final time.

Ready? Now we take our first steps of the Everest Base Camp Sleeping trek and head for our first Himalayan village, Phakding (2,610m/8,563ft). The trail starts of easily with a short descent towards the Dudh Khosi River. Once at the river, we follow it upstream until reaching a suspension bridge that leads us into the village. Still at a fairly low elevation and fit for the trek we continue on the next day with as our destination the Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286ft)! To reach here we need to head on through jungle trails following the river ever upstream. We pass by Monjo to check our permits for the Everest Base Camp Sleeping trek in Nepal and enter the Sagarmatha National Park.

Once at a descend elevation, we see the tree line disappearing and the environment transforming into a more trans-Himalayan landscape. Namche Bazaar, known as the largest Sherpa village of the area is located on a hilly ridge and has the iconic shape of a horseshoe. In the village, you can find many different lodges, restaurants, and even a German bakery. On this special trek in Nepal, we hold our first acclimatization day. We hold a day hike up to the famous Everest View Hotel from where the first nice views of Mt Everest can be seen. Depending on your choice we can either hike back to Namche Bazaar and explore the town or hike further to Khumjung’s Monastery and Hillary School. At the monastery, it is said you can see a real Yeti Scalp!

Heading on with your trek to Everest Base Camp, next on our itinerary is Tengboche (3,860/12,664ft). Entering now into pure Buddhist lands you’ll quickly notice that the local wildlife is more open and active. While trekking through the forest uphill you’ll be able to see a few Himalayan species. Tengboche is known for its monastery. A huge Buddhist complex with colorful murals and golden accented roofs overviewing the snowy Himalayas.

We spend the night here and can observe the monks with their daily tasks of prayer and devotion. Our next destination on this incredible trek in Nepal is Dingboche (4,410m/14,469ft). Located in the Imja Valley Dingboche is also where we hold our second acclimatization day. The views alone from here are amazing. Mt Ama Dablam, Mt Lhotse, Mt Everest, and Island Peak are the main highlights of today! During our acclimatization day, we hold a day hike up the Nagarjung Hill (5,073m/16,644ft). Not only will this greatly help us acclimatize for the coming altitudes, this hike also rewards you with incredible Himalayan views!

Ready to head on further up the next day we follow the trail to Lobuche (4,910m/16,109ft). This crossroad village can get busy as it serves as an intersection point for those coming or going to the Gokyo Lakes. We spent the night here and continued on the trail leading to EBC. The last village before Everest Base Camp is Gorekshep (5,170m/16,962ft). The trek is short but scenic.

We cross the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier. The longest and highest glacier of the world! We cross the Lobuche Pass and visit the Stone Memorial site. A bit further ahead we find the village of Gorekshep. Since we will be arriving quite early here, we take the rest of the day to enjoy the sights of Mt Pumori, Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse, Mt Nuptse, etc. For those who want we can take an evening hike up to Kala Patthar to catch the sun setting over Mt Everest as well.

The main highlight of the Everest Base Camp Sleeping trek comes on 11! We wake up in the early hours while it’s still dark outside and make the hike up to Kala Patthar. Seeing the sun rising and casting a warm golden glow over the snowy white Himalayas is a sight you won’t forget for a lifetime! We enjoy our time up the hill and head back to Gorekshep for breakfast. Now we make the trek to Everest Base Camp. We follow the trail leading along the Khumbu Glacier straight into Base Camp. Our porter team will be busy setting up our tented camp while we enjoy the sights and meet up with mountaineers aiming to summit the giant. We enjoy lunch and dinner with them and spend the night at the foot of the world’s highest mountain.

The trek back to Lukla is quite the same except for overnighting at Pheriche village for a different experience. From here we spend two days trekking back to Lukla via Namche Bazaar. To celebrate the success of your trek you can optionally party with our porter team as they will not be returning with us to Kathmandu. The next morning we take the early flight out of Lukla after our last breakfast in the Himalayas. Back in Kathmandu, we shuttle to your hotel, and in the evening Nepal Trekking Routes invites you to a special thank-you dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant.

Have you ever dreamed of sleeping under the stars at the top of the world? Book today with Nepal Trekking Routes the Everest Base Camp Sleeping trek in Nepal of 16 days and experience the real Himalayas!

FAQs
