3 Days Poon Hill Trek is one of the most demanded trek in Annapurna region. It is famous for the best sunrise view of the Himalayas in the world. Therefore, it is also known as Ghorepani Poon Hill trek or Annapurna  Sunrise View trek.

Beginning from Nayapul, Pokhara, this trek rewards you with the unique culture and tradition of Gurung and Magar ethnic communities. The flora and fauna of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) are the beauties of this region. If you make Poon Hill treks in spring, the entire region looks like a bride on her wedding day as it is wrapped by the colorful rhododendron.

The well-defined and comparatively easy trekking trail continues further along the Modi Khola banks from Nayapul. Then, it takes you to the Magar ethnic village of Ulleri that is famous for its cleanliness and 3,500-stonepaved staircases. Ghorepani is another ethnic village of Annapurna region inhabited by the Gurung community. You can get to know about the unique lifestyle, culture and tradition of the Gurung and Magar people during this trip.

Annapurna region trek is also known as the Home of the Brave Gurkhas. Most of the Gurung and Magar men have been serving in the British, Indian, Singapore and Hong Kong armies right from post World War I. 3 Days Poon Hill Trek Difficulty

Poon Hill trek difficulty can be categorized into moderate type of trekking in Nepal. Considering the trekking hours, distance, altitude, porter/guide as well as food and accommodation, it is not much difficult.

The total distance of Nayapul- Poon Hill- Nayapul is nearly 42 kilometers measuring. To cover the given distance, you have 3 days. You have to walk 5/6 hours per day. Although it is a little challenging to ascend from lower to higher land, descent is easy.

The highest altitude of 3 days Poon Hill trek is 3,210 m, which is the vantage point of this trek. Yes, as soon as you start walking above 2,500 m, there is a chance for altitude sickness. But talking about Poon Hill trek difficulty of altitude sickness, there is very less chance.

First, you have enough time to take rest in the middle of walking. Next, you have a professional guide/porter to support you to fight back with this problem. Yet another, we recommend you to keep yourself hydrated; have enough food and sleep.

Poon Hill Trek Distance

Approximately 66 kilometers away from the Lake City Pokhara lies Poon Hill (3,210 m). You begin this trek right from Nayapul which is around 45 kilometers from Pokhara. From there, on the first day, you walk up to Ulleri Village that takes nearly 4/5 hours to cover 12 kilometers distance.

On the second day, you will trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani, which are around 8 kilometers away from each other. On the final day, you will do an early morning hike to Poon Hill from Ghorepani. Poon Hill is only 1 kilometer far from Ghorepani and you can reach there in 1 hour as the trail is a little steep.

After enjoying the amazing sunrise view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Massifs, you return to Nayapul by walking. Although you have to cover all 21 kilometers on the third day, it doesn’t take much longer. The trail leads you downhill that you will cross the given distance within 6/7 hours.

3 Days Poon Hill Trek Accommodation

Located close from the beautiful Pokhara city, you don’t have to worry about Poon Hill trek accommodation. There are many hotels, lodges and teahouses en route to the final destination.

The hotels serve you with the neat and clean rooms with good air condition, although they may not have attached bathrooms in every hotel. You can have the amazingly beautiful Annapurna (8,091 m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) right from your room or terrace. The sight of the green forests and wavy landscapes is yet another beauty that allures you during 3 days Poon Hill trek.

These teahouses provide you with the varieties of food items ranging from the typical Nepali Dal Bhat to continental dishes. As there is transportation facility up to Poon Hill, the food cost is not much higher than in the higher altitude of Annapurna Circuit trek. Itinerary

As 3 Days Poon Hill trek begins from the Lake City Pokhara, our trekking guide meets you at the hotel. Then, you drive up to Nayapul in a local/tourist bus or private jeep for 2 hours. Then, from Nayapul you begin this trekking formally along the comfortable trail up to Ulleri Village.

Ulleri Village is a Magar Village popular for its well-maintained trails and clean surrounding. The 3,500-stonepaved staircases are also famous amongst the tourists who have already been to Annapurna Base Camp trek. From here, you can  see Annapurna South (7,219m) shining in the horizon.

By walking past the dense forests, small mountain villages and streams, you move towards Ghorepani. You will also encounter with the yak caravans and some natural waterfalls on the way. In about 6 hours, you will reach Ghorepani, another ethnic village of Annapurna region. From here, you will have an amazing view of Dhaulagiri (8,167m) Massif smiling back at you.

As hiking to Poon Hill is the final destination of this trek, you must begin the trip as early as you can. If you begin the trip before 4 am from Ghorepani, you will reach Poon Hill in about 1 hour. From the top of Poon Hill (3,210m), you will have the sunrise view of Annapurna (8,091m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167m). This is one of the most beautiful sunrise views of the Himalayas in the world. Then, you will return to the Ghorepani hotel and have breakfast. Now, you will walk along the easy trails up to Nayapul or you can also catch a private jeep to Pokhara from Ghorepani.

Trekking from Ghorepani to Nayapul takes approximately 7 hours while driving doesn’t take much time. After you arrive in Pokhara, you will be relocated to the hotel. In this way, you accomplish Poon Hill trek 3 days’ itinerary.

You can fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara, it takes about 25 minutes. Or if you drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara along the Prithvi Highway, it takes nearly 7 hours. Or you can also directly drive up to Ghorepani or Poon Hill as well. It means you have to manage two days more to do this trek  from Kathmandu.
