Overview

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek is the best opportunity to follow the footprints of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. This route was followed by Hillary and Tenzing during the 1953 Everest expedition. The Most striking feature of this trek is that you will visit two Himalayan protected areas of Nepal. You have to go along Gaurishankar Conservation Area besides Sagarmatha National Park. For a few days, you will follow the route of Pikey Peak trekking.

Flora and fauna of the Himalayan conservation areas make your trip more than memorable. While walking along the dense pine, oak, fir, birch and rhododendron forests, you have the glimpses of various animals and birds. You can see the animals like snow leopard, red panda, musk deer, Himalayan thar, Himalayan black bear, etc. during this trip. You will see 118 species of birds like Himalayan monal, blood pheasant, red-billed and yellow-billed chough.

The ancient monasteries, chortens and mane walls reflect the Tibetan Buddhist culture and tradition. Junbesi Monastery, Tengboche Monastery and Pangboche Monastery are the must-visit shrines. Jiri Everest Base Camp trekking takes you to the best vantage points of Everest region. Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) is one of the highest placed hotels in the world. From here, you can have the 360-degree view of Mt. Everest and other peaks.

The Next vantage point is Kalapatthar (5,550 m) that is visited after reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364 m). From Kalapatthar, you can shoot the photos and videos by keeping Mt. Everest (8,848 m) and other Great Himalayas on the background. Other peaks seen during Everest Base Camp trek via Jiri are Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8,188 m), Mt. Amadablam (6,812 m) Mt. Pumori (7,161 m) and many more.

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp trek is everyone’s dream once in a lifetime! They all want to reach the closest place of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (8,848 m). However, it is not everyone’s cup of tea! Jiri Everest Base Camp trek itinerary ranges from 9 days to 21 days depending upon a few things. The route you follow and the rest days you want to play a vital role to size the itinerary.

If you begin Everest Base Camp trek from Kathmandu by flying to Lukla, you can do it in around 9 days. On the other hand, if you make it from Jiri, Dolakha, the itinerary changes. Similarly, you have two days acclimatization in Namche Bazar and Dingboche in Everest region. If you cut off these days, you can minimize the proposed itinerary.

Similarly, you can extend this itinerary by connecting to other popular treks in Everest region. Everest Gokyo Lakes trek, Everest Three High Passes Trek, Everest Cho La Pass trek, etc. are some packages, which can be connected with this trek. You can consult with the local tour operator about the best trek itinerary for Everest region trekking. NTR is one of the most reliable agencies that conduct tour and trekking in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan respectively.

Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

To talk about Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek difficulty, we need to discuss the responsible factors for this. Trekking hours every day, presence of high passes, condition of the trails, altitude gain and availability of food and accommodation facilities are those factors. Except altitude gain, Jiri Everest Base Camp trek is a moderate type of trek. Even if you are beginners, you can do this trek if you prepare yourself a little more. In case you have the previous trekking experience, it will be an added benefit.

You have to walk for about 6/7 hours along the rugged trails every day. You don’t have to cross high passes but only below 3,200 m. As the teahouses, hotels and lodges are in enough numbers along the route, you don’t have to worry about food and accommodation. The condition of the trekking trails are good as thousands of the trekkers traverse to this region. The altitude is the main challenge during this trek as you have to spend most of the days above 2,500 m.

As soon as you reach above 2,500 m, you have the threat of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). You need to follow some precautions to avoid this challenge. Walking with slow paces, having enough rest, food and drinking water can be really to help us cope with this. Similarly, keeping first aid kit box with you, it can also keep you away from AMS. Moreover, as soon as you feel any of the symptoms like shortness of breath or extreme fatigue or dehydration, you need to consult with the trekking guide.
