Everest Base Camp Trekking Itinerary

Everest base camp trek

Everest trek itinerary ranges from 5 days to 21 days and lover even. The itinerary of any tour or trek package depends upon different aspects like time, cost and destination. If you have a short holiday, 5 days will be enough to observe the natural and cultural wonders of Everest region.

Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Everest base camp trek

While planning this trek, you might think about Everest Base Camp trek difficulty. For this, you should consider a few components related with trekking. Trekking hours, altitude, trail condition as well as food and accommodation are some of them.

You need to walk along the rugged trails located above 2,500 m for about 5/6 hours every day. Walking along such tracks might be difficult for the beginner trekkers.

Everest region is a popular trekking in Nepal. There are many tea houses, hotels and lodges on the stopovers. It means you don’t have to worry about food and accommodation facilities in this trek. Annapurna Base Camp trek and EBC trek are popular for comparatively better food and accommodation facilities.

The Everest trekking trail of the last section of Everest Base Camp trek is a little rough. As it lies above 5,000 m, the trail remains wet and slippery as well as snow-covered most of the time. Therefore, you must be a bit more cautious while walking from Gorakshep to EBC and Kalapatthar.

Altitude is the only factor that makes Everest Base Camp trek difficulty something to consider. Most of the time is spent above 2,500 m that means you may suffer from altitude sickness. However, you can prevent this by following some precautions like these:

  1. Keep yourself completely hydrated.
  2. Walk slowly by taking enough rest in the middle of the Everest trek.
  3. Have enough food and sleep.
  4. Keep first aid kit box in the backpack.
  5. Talk with the team leader as soon as you feel uncomfortable.

During the 30-minute-flight, you have the aerial view of the snowcapped peaks and wonderful landscapes. The mountains from Manaslu region to Kanchenjunga region come into your sight in this journey.

After landing at Lukla, the gateway to Everest Base Camp trek, you move forwards through pine, cedar and rhododendron forests. You have to cross Cheplung Village from where you can enjoy Mt. Khumbila (5,761m). Along the Dudh Koshi River Valley, you measure the trekking trails up to Phakding.

Today, you move further by following the trail that goes northwards up to the Benkar Valley. When you cross the Dudh Koshi River, the trail moves past Chumoa and Monjo Village. You get your Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit at Monjo as it is the entrance to the highest placed national park in the world.

Then, you go across the Hillary Suspension Bridge and Jorsalle Village walking along the Dudh Koshi and the Bhote  Koshi River. Afterwards, walking through the steep trail going through Sagarmatha National Park, you reach Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the largest trading center of the whole  Khumbu region, so it is known as the  Sherpa Capital as well. The town offers you all the modern amenities like banks, ATMs, hotels, bakeries, restaurants etc.

To be introduced with the climate of the high Himalayan altitude, you have a few things to do here at Namche Bazaar. You can visit the Sherpa Museum to know all about the Sherpa lifestyle, customs and costumes. Similarly, the Hall of Fame shows you the photos of Hillary and Tenzing from the 1953 Everest Expedition. Next, you can also hike to Everest View Hotel, which is the world’s highest altitude hotels. From the hotel, you can see Mt. Everest and other peaks exposed in the fullest.

Measuring the rugged trail, you move towards Tengboche enjoying the gurgling water of the Dudh Koshi River and astounding mountain scenery. Walking through the winding track for about 5 hours taking enough rest, you reach the destination. Tengboche Village houses the largest monastery of the Solukhumbu region.

The trail from Tengboche to Dingboche moves across yet another suspension bridge over the Imja Khola. By crossing the trail surrounded and beautified by numerous mani stones, you reach Pangboche. Here, you can visit Pangboche Monastery, which is the oldest in the Khumbu region of its type. Moving ahead along the steep trail, you reach Dingboche, a traditional Sherpa Village of Everest region. Apart from Sherpa culture and tradition, you can relish the awe-inspiring outlook of Mt. Lhotse, Island Peak and Mt. Ama Dablam.

This is another acclimatization day during trekking to Everest Base Camp. In the morning, you can hike to Nagarjun Hill (Nangkartshang Peak: 5,073m) if the weather is favourable. Although the trail to the peak is quite challenging, the view is really rewarding. You can have the top- to- bottom- glimpse of Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812m) from the top. In the daytime, you can stroll around the village, which is famous for a long stonewalls made in the course of collecting them during cultivating the field. Finally, you reach Lobuche Village situated at the foot of Lobuche Peak, which is a trekking peak of Nepal. To avoid altitude sickness, you need to make the travel with the slow pace. Next, you should take enough rest, drinking water and hygienic food.

This is the greatest day of the entire Everest Base Camp trek as you are reaching the most awaited place in your whole life. Comparing to the previous days, today is quite hard trekking as you have to go across the Khumbu Glacier. But the rewarding view of the snowcapped peaks all around, you can measure the trail up to Gorakshep. In fact, until the 1953 Everest Expedition, it used to be the original base camp. It is the last human settlement area of the Khumbu region closest to the base camp of Mt. Everest.

By leaving the backpack at the hotel in Gorakshep, you move towards the base camp. The trail goes past the Gorakshep Lake, once one of the largest glacial lakes in the region. Trekking for about a couple of hours, you reach the height of 5,364m, which is the closest place to from the Everest Summit. In the peak seasons, you come to meet many Everest expedition teams preparing for climbing Mt. Everest.

From the base camp, you have the spectacular vistas of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Ama Dablam and many more except Mt. Everest. The appearance of the Khumbu Glacier and the Khumbu Icefall are spellbinding from this height. After enjoying the lively peaks gazing at one another, you climb down to Gorakshep for the night rest.

Although it is the hardest day, it is equally rewarding as well. Early in the morning, you need to set off towards Kala Patthar, the best vantage point of Everest region. You need to reach this destination before the sun rises to have the Great Himalayas in golden colour. All the mountains of the Khumbu Himalayan Range are found looming from left to right.

Watching the Everest Summit glittering in the early sunrays is beyond description perhaps! You can shoot as many photos or videos as you can by keeping the Great Himalayas on the background. The photos and videos will remain as the lifelong testimonials that you have at least once been to the highest place close to Mt. Everest!

Then, you descend down to Gorakshep and have your breakfast. Finally, you descend to Periche for the night station.

After breakfast, you begin the retreat journey towards Namche Bazaar by crossing Tengboche and many other Sherpa villages far behind. Enjoying the splendid view of the Himalayas and pine, fir and rhododendron forests of Sagarmatha National Park, you arrive the Sherpa Capital. Here, you can celebrate the successful completion of Everest Base Camp trek.

By following the trail and enjoying the vistas you did a few days earlier, you move downhill to Lukla. You spend the night at this small Sherpa town from where the trek began. This is the last day of trekking package this season, so enjoy the panoramic view as much as you can.

After having breakfast, you fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla by enjoying the aerial view of Everest region once more this season. When the plane lands at the Kathmandu Airport, you will be relocated at the hotel. In the day time, you can again visit the remaining time around the Kathmandu Valley. In the evening, the agency organizes a farewell dinner as a part of hospitality. You will  really enjoy eating at a cultural restaurant around the tourist hub, Thamel.

was a little bit afraid: would we all be able to reach the Everest Base Camp? It was a physical challenge at this altitude, for which we couldn’t prepare ourselves, even if we hiked a lot in the Alps the months before our journey to Nepal.
We did it, also thanks to the great team! The tour was very well organized, allowing us to acclimatize to the increasing altitude and the thinner air. Our health was accurately monitored by our guide, on top of his organizational work, and I felt safe at any moment. We had also to learn the right rhythm for the hiking.
The landscapes were spectacular, the tour was amazing. The mountains, which were always visible in the morning, were incredibly high. Then, during day, the clouds arrived and only allowed us to see parts of the landscape when they moved. The hanging bridges were impressive but even I achieved to pass them.
It was great!! Thank you Narwin, Raj, Okil and Kumar! And also to Shailesh and his wife for the back office organization!!

I think it is hard to find good tour guide in Nepal. However, Shailesh and his team are very reliable and had so great tours. At the Kathmandu tour, the tour guide has PhD(his name is Kumar), so he has a lot of deep knowledge of Kathmandu and Nepali-an cultures and religions. At the Himalaya trekking tour, the tour guide(his name is NaWin) knows everything about Nepal. Even other guide in Himalaya asked our guide where the Mt. Everest and other mountains are…(This is the point I realized it is hard to find GOOD tour guide in Nepal) I heard that all members of Shailesh company has grade A+ of guide school. This is why they are reliable. Throughout the tour, they are very friendly and helpful. Even the trouble happened about porter, the guide took a responsibility. I was just impressed their attitudes to their job. I highly recommend Shailesh and his teams tour.

Together with our guide Navien we hiked to the Everest Base Camp.
I am giving 5 stars, because our travel agency was reliable, flexible and careful, our trip was safe and well organized, and because we had an amazing experience.

Travelling in off-season can be challenging sometimes, because villages might be empty and a lot of hotels are closed; Navien successfully managed our accommodations and restaurants.

Apart from the unforgettable views, the EBC-track is remarkable for its soustainable tourism, as no street for automobiles has been built for construction purposes. Every house you see on your path is built with local materials and sherpas carry only the most important things like wooden walls and food up the mountains. Thank you guys for showing it to us!!!

On our Trek to EBC I pushed towards limits, I partially didn’t even know existed, but felt safely guided all the way. I got good advise on how to cope with the height and thin air, so that we were able to succeed with our 11-day plan. The highlight of our trek was to see the light of the rising sun from the high Kala Pattar. Despite many hotels being closed in the off-season, our guide Nawin lead us to good places to spend the nights. Unfortunately no snowleopard appeared out of thin air, maybe they hid behind the many Yaks we encountered. All in all this trek is undoubtedly an experience, I’ll always remember.

I just recently returned from the Everest Base Camp trek organised by Shailesh Pokharel and Nepal Trekking Routes. A most amazing experience, from the very first contact made with this company till the very end! After making contact with Nepal Trekking Route Shailesh, the CEO, was in constant contact with me – offering advice and information. The welcome we received was outstanding as was the constant attention from him and his staff. Our Guide and porter continued in the provision of excellent service which is clearly ingrained in the ethos of this company – I cannot fault them on any account. Our trip was amazing and was made truly comfortable and rewarding due mostly to the guidance and care shown by our guide, Na Win – a truly remarkable person who was completely comfortable in this harsh terrain. This made us feel comfortable and safe. After the epic journey, Shailesh continued to provide excellent follow-up service until he personally dropped us off at the airport – nothing was too much trouble for him. I can highly recommend Nepal Trekking Routes and I would like to take the opportunity to thank the team for making our trip a memorable experience

Wow, what an experience, the Amazing Everest Base Camp Trek was absolutely fantastic. We had an issue with getting our luggage and Shailesh was very helpful to go back to the airport to pick up one of the cases. The organisation of the trek was excellent and Sujan our guide did a great job. His knowledge was really good and he provided some really useful facts along the way. On our return to Lukla all flights were cancelled due to the weather, once again Shailesh called on some friends to ensure we got back to Kathmandu. I would highly recommend Nepal Trekking Routes Treks & Expedition as they take a lot of care and pay attention to all the details to ensure you have a great time and ensure you meet your and their goal of getting to EBC and back!!

Hello World,
We highly recomend Nepal Trekking Routes. Espacilay Sailesh, Bishnu and Sailesh’s lovley Wife because she created us after our Nepal Adventure an awsome typical Nepali farewell dinner.
We were hostet all the time really nicely, safe and friendly, its absolutely nothing to complain about it.
In the begining we had very often contact with Sailesh about the whole organisation for our Trekking and Jungelsafari. He helped us all the time it didn’t matter the timediffrence we had between Switzerland and Nepal.
Before we arrived in Kathmandu we had our doubts how everything is going to work. But our doubts faded away as soon Sailesh picked us up in the Airport and from that moment we were guided perfectly through our whole 4 Weeks.
We also wanna say a big thank you to our trekkingguide Bishnu and our porter Sid they brought us safely almost through the whole Himmalay. As our basic plan to go to the EBC ended up with additional loops over the Chola Pass and close to Gokyo. The flexibility of those guys was just mindblowing.

Overall we had a fantastic time and we can recomend everybody Nepal Trekking Routes.

Cheers Peter & Adrian
